The project aims to inspire students and job seekers in California to explore future-oriented career paths in agriculture, food, water, and the environment. These fields are critical arenas for meeting the challenges of mitigating and adapting to climate change, strengthening resilience of human and natural communities, and meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
The interactive 100+ Jobs website highlights some of the myriad jobs that contribute to feeding people and sustaining the planet, and identifies educational and training programs, career pathways, and employment resources for these jobs.
The project is a collaboration between California Community Colleges and Sustainable Agriculture Education (SAGE). The California Community Colleges are dedicated to offering training and educational programs that will build a strong pipeline of talented, passionate young people prepared for the high quality, essential jobs contributing to the sustainability, resilience and health of California’s people and environment, now and into the future. As a long-time leader in California’s sustainable food and agriculture movement and as articulated in the Bay Area Food Futures Roadmap, SAGE regards investment in a future-oriented agriculture, food, and environment workforce as an essential foundation for building equitable, healthy and resilient communities.
We welcome all visitors! The website is specifically geared towards community college students, job seekers and career changers across the state who are looking for inspiration and support pursuing careers that help make our agricultural production, food systems, water supply and environment in general more healthy, equitable and sustainable.
There are millions of jobs and career paths in the agriculture, food, water and environment fields. Our focus is on those job stories that bring to life the principles, actions and infrastructure underlying regenerative agriculture, conservation of natural resources, and healthy, equitable food systems.
We seek to feature agriculture, food, water and environment jobs that help realize state and federal mandates to reduce emissions, sequester carbon and conserve natural resources, while increasing economic opportunities. (The California 30x30 initiative and the pending federal Ag Resilience Act, HR 5861, are just two of numerous such mandates.)
We also showcase jobs in industries ranging from artisanal to high tech and from small to large scale employers, recognizing that an ‘all of the above’ approach is essential to the future of our environment, economy, society, and planet.
For example, we feature innovators working in the plant-based food industry to advance alternatives to meat, as well as those practicing responsible animal husbandry and cattle raising. Similarly, we highlight jobs in small start-ups as well as jobs in large, established companies with thousands of employees.
We are committed to featuring job stories that represent the full diversity of California, and to ensuring that the audiences visiting our site can identify with the job ambassadors and their life and professional journeys. We are especially committed to featuring Black, Indigenous and People of Color, women, those without advanced degrees, and those with non-traditional education and career paths.

We obtain occupational data, including salary information, from O-Net Online which is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor/Employment and Training Administration and uses data from over 1,000 occupations across the United States. O-Net Online is a publicly accessible career exploration tool that provides a variety of occupational information including the average salary for a given occupation.
We provide multiple resources to help students and job seekers find careers they are passionate about and that are focused on future-oriented careers in agriculture, food, water, and the environment. You can use our Explore Educational Pathways section to find a community college program in the Bay Area that aligns with your career goals using the Program Finder tool. Additional community college program finders will be added as more California regions develop these tools. If you are currently looking for a job, the View Job Opportunities section provides a list of relevant job boards. Take a look at our Learn More section to explore a variety of occupations via O-Net Online where you will find job information, skills needed, salary range and much more.
